Holy Hell

This kind of stuff just turns the stomach.

This is what happens when society looks the other way too long.

Churches have NEVER been good at governing themselves... they're run by men who believe themselves above and outside the law.

I can only imagine what's going on behind the scenes in America's megachurches.

This is how power protects itself. As ugly as this is, it's nothing next to wars for oil with all their "collateral damage," or the predatory practices of Big Parma and the Insurance Giants, or the bend-over-and-take-it attitude of Bg Oil. Lincoln once observed:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching. It unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. The money power preys upon the nation in times of peace and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than a monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. It denounces, as public enemies, all who question its methods or throw light upon its crimes.

I have two great enemies, the Southern Army in front of me & the financial institutions at the rear; the latter is my greatest foe. Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in the hands of a few, and the Republic is destroyed."
— President Abraham Lincoln, Nov 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins)

Half a century later, Teddy Roosevelt saw the same thing:

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day."
— Theodore Roosevelt, April 19, 1906

And finally JFK made the same observation:

"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence ... It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed." — John F. Kennedy, 1961

Since then, corporate money has been enshrined as a form of Free Speech (gods knows how) and protesters have been consigned to "Freedom Zones" – where their speech won't offend the ears of the elite.

Churches are only part of the equation, but they serve their purpose; witness the rise of the "Prosperity Gospel" of the sort that makes mockery of Jesus and his concern for the impoverished of the world.

They love nothing like they love themselves.
